WHO WE ARE
We believe that change starts locally. It begins with ordinary people doing ordinary things that, with persistence, can lead to lasting and meaningful change.
Our founding team originally came together after George Floyd’s murder, organizing local protests in solidarity with national calls to charge the officers involved. Most of us didn’t know each other at the start, but what united us was a shared set of values, and the belief that more people in our town felt the same way. Eventually, we shifted our focus to how we could make change in our own community and with fellow neighbors formed a local action group committed to that work.

Within that action group, our Founders hosted events and demonstrations to bring like-minded people together, launched a newsletter to keep residents informed on City Council and School Board activity, and issued calls to action when those bodies fell short of reflecting the community’s values. In short, we were ordinary people doing ordinary things that, over time, have made a positive impact on our community.
But it wasn’t without challenges. We found it difficult to fundraise, expand our visibility, and have the resources necessary to realize all of our goals without a 501(c)(3) designation.
And that’s what led us to start Small Town Loud Voices. With the help of an STLV grant, individuals and groups starting where we did can move faster and make a greater impact, with financial support that can meaningfully accelerate their work.
WHAT WE DO
Small Grants.
Big Change.
Small Town Loud Voices is a grant-making foundation that helps support individuals and groups to do meaningful work in their communities. STLV wants to help you make a difference in your own communities, and beyond. We believe that impactful change starts at the local level, and we are here to help bring your vision to life.
STLV provides grants for individuals and groups through the grant application process. Are you planning a local Pride or Juneteenth event? How about a banned book fair or outreach about a specific issue affecting your community? Maybe it’s opening a local food bank or hosting a clothing drive. STLV may be able to grant you funds needed to support your cause and help your vision become a reality.
Small Town Loud Voices has a variety of grant options available. We understand that sometimes, all you need is a hundred dollars to get started. Other endeavours may require a bit more assistance. You have more power than you think, sometimes it just takes some help getting there.
